It's been a while...
Hi friends,
I apologize that you haven't heard from me for a while. Things have been really busy since I have been home, and coupled with less access to the internet at home has kept me from updating this site as much as I would normally like.
I'd like to share a few updates with you now though...
What have I been so busy doing you may be asking?
It has been a summer mixed with lots of activity for sure. I have had the chance to spend time with my family which has been great. I have been especially excited to spend some time with my sister and brother-in-law who were not able to come on the trip to visit with my parents in March.
I have also had the opportunity to spend some time at the North Carolina beaches which remain some of my favorite places in the world. Spending time with friends there has been fun and very refreshing.
Right now, I am in Colorado taking a two week class called 'God, Bible and Holy Spirit' taught by Wayne Grudem, who wrote our text book 'Systematic Theology'. (See note below for related prayer request). The class has been great and I have thoroughly enjoyed the reading as well as listening to Dr. Grudem's lectures about the Biblical doctrines that he discusses in his book. Generally, the class gives us tools to really examine what the whole Bible has to say about different doctrines and topics.
You can be praying for me in the following ways...
*As I study to finish the class I am taking on Friday
*For a four day debriefing time next week required for anyone who is home on furlough for the first time
*As I travel back to North Carolina next Thursday
*For quality time with friends and family for the three weeks I will be back in NC
*That the Lord would provide the additional support that I need to raise before I return to Asia
*As I make preparations to leave the US for an extended period of time
**On a somewhat sad note, Tamara's dad went home to be with the Lord the week that I left to come back to the US. Although he will be greatly missed, the family is glad that 1. They know he is with his Lord and 2. That he did not have to suffer prolonged physical pain. I am sure they would appreciate your continued prayers for them, especially that Tamara's mom's house would sell soon to ease her financial situation.
**Dr. Grudem's daughter-in-law was killed in an automobile accident on Saturday evening in Minneapolis. She was 23, and she and Dr. Grudem's youngest son, Alexander had only been married for three and a half months. Our class is being taught by another professor in his absence, and I am sure their family would appreciate your prayers. The young Grudem's attended John Piper's church in Minneapolis, and Dr. Piper came to the hospital to pray with Alexander when he recieved the news. Our class has been tremendously encouraged by the Grudem family's response to this tragedy as we see their faith lived out. Rachel Grudem's funeral will be held this Thursday.
